Winter sports action away from the groomed slopes

Backcountry bliss

The Paznaun Valley in Tyrol is no longer a hidden gem among freeriders – and for good reason. Surrounded by majestic peaks, endless powder fields and breathtaking mountain scenery, this region offers everything a freerider could dream of. Away from the groomed pistes, you’ll find countless lines, untouched snowfields and that unmistakable sense of freedom that makes freeriding so special.

The ski resort of See is particularly popular with those new to the world of freeriding. The terrain around the Medrigkopf offers ideal conditions for beginners to make their first turns in deep snow – with gentle slopes, safe terrain and easy access via the mountain lifts. Those seeking peace and quiet will also find secluded spots and untracked descents just waiting to be discovered.

Thanks to its north-facing slopes and high altitude, See often enjoys excellent snow conditions – with fresh powder lasting well into spring. After a big day on the mountain, there’s no better way to round off the adventure than with a relaxed stop at one of the cosy alpine huts.

Tip: For maximum safety, always check the avalanche reports and consider heading out with a local guide – they know the best spots and ensure your freeride experience in See is both safe and unforgettable.

Freeriders with not that much experience can enjoy bluebird days in easy terrain. However, if you’re after chasing some challenging lines, See has that, too. Simply ask the local guides for their best tips! The experts of the region know the backcountry of See like the backs of their hands and can show you the most rewarding spots for more accomplished freeriders.

Our tip: The Alpine Experience Programme offers great weekly courses for off-piste sports.
