The
tour starts in Samnaun Dorf and follows the northern side of the valley in a
varied combination of uphill and downhill sections. A forest road first climbs
to the viewpoint at 2,146 metres. After a further 80 steep metres of elevation
gain, which partly have to be pushed, wide views open up across the Samnauntal
valley behind the impressive avalanche barriers. At point 2167, an exciting
descent begins, with steep, rooty and winding sections. This passage requires
good riding technique and delivers a real trail experience. At point 2036, the
route joins a forest road and continues to the Fuorcla Curschiglias, where a bench
invites riders to take a short break. The route then descends through the
forest, with numerous tight switchbacks, to the valley road in
Samnaun-Compatsch. The final section is the climb along the Schergenbach stream
back to Samnaun Dorf. The Fair Trail Schäfersteig demands technical skill and
fitness, rewarding riders with spectacular views across the Samnauntal valley.
With the railway station in Landeck, the Paznaun is optimally connected to the Austrian train network. From Landeck-Zams station, only a short bus ride separates you from the Paznaun. Every half hour, line bus 260 runs from there through the valley. Bus stop: Ischgl Silvrettabahn
