At the international snow sculpture competition Formen in Weiss (Shapes in White) in Ischgl, nine artist duos created impressive snow sculptures in the middle of the Silvretta Arena in January. Within a few days, creative and expressive works of art were created that complemented the winter mountain panorama in a special way.
Thomas Mussner and Stefan Malsiner emerged as the winners of the competition. Their sculpture entitled "Juhe auf der Olm" impressed the jury the most. Second place went to Ivan Holzknecht and Armin Rifesser with their work "Natur Pur" (Pure Nature). Ralf Rosa and Peter Fechtig were close behind with "Erdi, Schokus und Nilla" (Erdi, Schokus and Nilla). The other entries also demonstrated high creative quality: Simon Rauter and Peter Waldboth presented "Steinbock" (Ibex), while Simon Morgenthaler and Stefan Zuber made a sporting statement with "Mountainbike in Ischgl" (Mountain Bike in Ischgl). The sculptures "Ischgl Classics" by Ivo Piazza and Reiner Kassletter, "Fun above Ischgl" by Thomas Quitta and Lorenz Demtz, and "Filling up on adrenaline" by Damian Piazza and Davide Zeni complemented the diverse range of art on display. The work "Lily the frog" by Martin Sharp and Justin Scott rounded off the field of participants.
For decades, the Formen in Weiss competition has been thrilling visitors with impressive snow sculptures that can be admired in the alpine surroundings for weeks on end. The event combines creativity, craftsmanship and nature in a unique way and is an integral part of Ischgl's winter events calendar.
